For those homeowners who are occupying their primary residence on April 1, 2011, you are eliglble for the Homestead Tax Exemption. The Homestead Tax Exemption forms are available from the Vermont Tax Department at http://tax.vermont.gov/pdf.word.excel/forms/2010/HS-131-rev10-10.pdf. This form, HS-131 is due on April 15th of this year and once filed, does not have to be filed again.
In addition, there is an income-sensitive tax prebate which can be filed with this form: http://tax.vermont.gov/pdf.word.excel/forms/2010/2011HS-145.pdf. Check with your accountant if you are uncertain about your applicability for this prebate. This form is due April 18th, presumably after determining your gross income for the previous year.
